Organizing the Media: Building Solidarity and Power in Challenging Times
In this interactive session, key players from The NewsGuild of New York, Local 31003, CWA will use case studies at unionized major news organizations to discuss the state of organizing in today's media industry. How are new groups of workers being brought into the movement, and how are older union shops being revitalized? What strategies and tactics can be used in remote organizing, including the creation of digital picket lines? And, as these workers organize, what questions do they raise about who the media serves?

Our presenters will explore these issues and more, setting the stage for a discussion that will provide opportunities for participants to ask questions and share experiences and additional perspectives, as we examine these critical issues together.

Presenters:
Susan DeCarava, New York NewsGuild President

Chris Brooks, New York NewsGuild Mobilizing Director

Marybeth Seitz-Brown, New York NewsGuild Interim Organizing Director

***Chris and Marybeth come out of the UMass Labor Center's M.S. program.
