“Conversations on Translations” The Comparative Literature Program and Spanish and Portuguese Studies present: A conversation with Marjorie Perloff
The new series “Conversations on Translations”, a collaboration between the Comparative Literature Program and the Spanish and Portuguese Studies at UMass Amherst, invites two guest speakers each semester to discuss their work and ideas about translation and multilingualism. We are proud to present in our first meeting Marjorie Perloff, one of the foremost critics of twentieth and now twenty-first century poetry and poetics, both Anglo-American and from a Comparatist perspective. The conversation will include a discussion of Perloff’s ideas on translation as well as on her new book, Infrathin: An Experiment in Micropoetics (University of Chicago Press, 2021), in which she reconsiders the question: what is it that makes poetry poetry?
